“Nothing’s About to Happen to Me” by Mitski was released on February 27. Mitski had already released “Where’s My Phone?” and “I’ll Change For You” before her album came out. Is the album worth listening to?
Personally, my favorite song from the album is “I’ll Change for You”. The lyrics are nicely written, and the song itself has a soft tone. The meaning behind the song is about desperate feelings that are felt after a breakup. Although not very relatable to me, I love the raw emotion that is exposed in the lyrics.

My favorite song based on the meaning behind it is “Dead Women”. The meaning behind the song is about how society exploits women even after death. It highlights the objectification of women, ignoring the struggles they experienced in life. It is a song that has strong lyrics, which is one of my favorite things about Mitski’s songs.
Tori Hashimoto, a junior at ERHS and a fan of Mitski, shared her favorite song.
“I really liked ‘That White Cat,” Hashimoto says. “It’s an underrated song that has an interesting meaning behind it. I wished more people could appreciate it.”
I don’t have a least favorite song, because they are all good in their own ways, however if there was one I had to choose, it would be “Rules”. It’s a more upbeat song, which is about the reflection of a desire to regain control after a breakup. There’s not much bad about it; however, it was just a less memorable song.
Jessica Lagunas, a sophomore at ERHS, shared her opinion on the album.
“I don’t really listen to Mitski because it’s not a genre I listen to,” Lagunas says. “But a lot of the lyrics in the songs are meaningful, and I can appreciate that.”
Overall, it is a beautifully composed album and is definitely worth listening to if you like artists similar to Mitski. The album is only 34 minutes long, which is similar to Mitski’s other albums. My rating of the album is a solid nine and a half out of ten.
