Last week on April 17, Olivia Rodrigo released her new song, “drop dead.” This song will be featured in her upcoming album, “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love,” which is set to be released on June 12. Is this new song good, and what’s to be expected in this new album?
Her song, “drop dead” is a nice, simple song that is enjoyable to listen to. I think it was a good song for her to release as a teaser to her upcoming album, which can help reveal the theme and style of the other songs included. One of the lyrics in the song is a reference to The Cure’s song, “Just Like Heaven,” which hints at Rodrigo’s love for the band. The lyric is “You know all the words to ‘Just Like Heaven’ / And I know why he wrote them”.
Olivia Herrera, a freshman at ERHS and a fan of Olivia Rodrigo, shared her opinion on the song.
“I loved it just as much as her other songs,” Herrera says. “It’s really cool yet not too much, which has me wanting more songs immediately.”
As for the upcoming album, there are no names for the 13 tracks currently, excluding “drop dead.” However, there is merchandise available to buy, including vinyls, cassettes, journals, and much more.
Based on her newest song and the song title, I think it will have a theme of romance, maybe even a broken relationship as well. No matter what the theme, my main hope is for the songs to be good. I really enjoyed her past albums, so I believe this will also be a very good album.
Alana Pasillas, a freshman at ERHS, shared her thoughts on the upcoming album as a person who doesn’t listen to Olivia Rodrigo that much.
“I’ve heard some songs by Olivia Rodrigo,” Pasillas says. “Hopefully this album will be good, because I’m kinda excited as I’m trying to listen to more of her songs. I can’t wait.”
