Charli xcx released her new song, “Chains of Love” on November 13. It’s a song that will be featured on her upcoming album, “Wuthering Heights.” It is also created for Emerald Fennell’s new film adaptation of Emily Bronte’s classic novel, “Wuthering Heights.” Let’s talk about it!
The song itself has good lyrics. It tells the story of romanticizing violence in a relationship. The lyrics that I like the most are “The chains of love are cruel,” followed by “I shouldn’t feel like a prisoner.” Those two lyrics fit the story line of the song perfectly, showing that being in a relationship shouldn’t feel suffocating.
Her Album, “Wuthering Heights,” is set to release on February 13, 2026, along with the film. I think the song gives a good sneak peek of her upcoming album. The song has a different style from her previous album “BRAT,” so it gives me the impression that the album will be a different style as well.
Owen Souza, a junior at ERHS, shared how he felt about the song.
“I don’t really listen to Charli,” Souza said. “Although ‘BRAT’ was good, and her new song. It was different from what she usually does, in a good way.”

The music video for the song recently came out on November 17, which she promoted on her Instagram account the same day.
In the caption of the video on Instagram, she wrote, “I’m here so permanently…” which is a lyric in the song. She also thanked Justin Raisen and Finn Keane, who both worked on the song with her.
The music video is also well-made and represents the lyrics nicely. Her outfit in the music video was beautiful, which fit the color scheme of the video well. It was directed by C Prinz, whose work is beautifully made.
Overall, I’m excited to hear the whole album and watch the film, even though I’m not a big fan of her music. I think she’s a good artist, and I hope this project will be worth the wait.
