Eleanor Roosevelt High School, the school offers an academic Saturday School on the weekends. These are for students who need possibly extra help, or to make up a test, or if they just need to catch up on work and need a focused environment.
“I think it’s cool that they have Saturday School for students who need it,” said Tori Hashimoto, a junior, “It’s nice to know I can get the help or can make up assignments when needed.”
Sometimes at school, students can get left behind. Sometimes, the class period isn’t long enough to teach, or perhaps the students get distracted. So Saturday School is offered to those who wish for it. Then can come in, sit down, and have four hours to work. It would also be beneficial for students to work one-on-one with the teacher if possible, which is also offered.

If a student can’t work one-on-one with the teacher, there are also tutors and other peers to assist them. They can still get the help they need or want without having to wait too long.
Saturday School isn’t just for kids who need tutoring. Sometimes, teachers offer things for Saturday School for their students. For example, in AP Literature, some teachers like Metcalf are offering a practice test session for the upcoming AP test. It would help students understand what the test would feel like and what to expect, and it’s offered during Academic Saturday School.
“More than likely, I’ll go to Saturday School for a practice test. I think it’s a great idea, I did it once before, and sometimes the teachers offer snacks,” said Michon Bush, a junior at ERHS.
Some teachers also offer make-up assignments, possible extra credit opportunities, or lessons for students who fell behind.

Saturday School is also typically only four hours, unlike the school’s typical six hours. It doesn’t take up the whole Saturday, so it allows students to still enjoy their weekend. And in some cases, students don’t have to stay the full four hours. If they’re just making up a test, they’re allowed to take it, then leave.
If students have to make up a test or to take a test, instead of waking up really early in the morning, they can just go to Saturday School. Students can still get their hours of sleep, and they don’t have to worry about going to school straight after. It’s like long office hours. You can talk to your teachers about Saturday School, and ask them if they ever do it.
