On April 1 and April 3, Kanye West took over SoFi Stadium with two sold-out shows
It was Kanye West’s first solo concert in the U.S in over five years. His last show was when he hosted the Free Larry Hoover concert at the L.A colosseum
I was able to attend night one of two at Kanye’s stop in L.A
This marked the fifth concert I’ve attended, and I can say confidently that this was my favorite one so far. I thought when I saw icons like Tyler, the Creator, Kendrick Lamar, SZA, or Freddie Gibbs, those shows could never be topped, but I was wrong.
Even with there being no openers and coming out past 9:00, he redeemed
Kanye broke many headlines with this performance, from his crazy stage design, standing on the Earth, to his crazy setlist
He started his show off with songs off his new album “Bully,” though this is not my favorite album of his it is his second-best album of the decade behind 2021’s “Donda.”
The first song he played was the Intro of Bully the 808’s on this track made the sound crazy in the stadium, starting this off, hyping the crowd
He then moved on to more of Bully’s tracklist, playing the second and third songs, “This is a must” and “All the love.”
Everything changed, though, with the fourth song he played, “Father Stretch My Hands Pt1.”
then after this he went on the craziest song run I have ever witnessed at a concert with songs like Can’t tell me nothing, Mercy, Power, Bound 2, Heartless seeing all these hits live and in the flesh was a thing I never thought I was able to experience since Kanye West shows has stayed pefomring in the U.S.A for while and him going through many backlashes with his Antisemtic remarks this concert really showed how you can’t cancel a Superstar two back to back sold out shows in arugably the biggest market in the World Los Angeles
Then, after this run, he came on to bring out a special guest. Don Toliver was the first one to come out. He is someone I predicted would show up on one of the two nights. He and Kanye performed “Moon” off of 2021’s “Donda,” one of Kanye’s deeply melodic and soulful tracks
Then Don Toliver would get the whole “Earth” to himself, where he would perform “E85” off his new album “Octane,” that released at the beginning of this year. Hearing this song was super cool because it has been one of my favorites off the album, and also the song is now one of Don Toliver’s greatest hits, so hearing the crowd sing all the lyrics made me even more amazed with the performance.
The second guest he brought out was his daughter, North West, where they performed “Talking” and “Piercing on my hand.”
He then went on to perform the songs from “Bully” that he played at the beginning of the shows. This was for sure the lowest point of the concert. Everyone in the crowd went from standing hyped to sitting down
But then he picked the crowd back up, finishing it off with tracks like All Falls Down, Jesus Walks, Through the Wire, and Runaway.
I really loved the show, I think it’s the best concert I have gone to. I would give the Sofi Night one performance a 9/10, and that is a crazy high rating even with Kanye stopping songs many times and restarting them, getting mad at the light technicians, and even requesting at one point to “Make the world go slower.”
I was able to talk to Jacob Castro, who joined me at Night One. “I think the concert was great. It was my first concert, but it was definitely my favorite. It was so crazy to see one of my favorite artists perform live, especially one who is as influential as he is. I would rate it a 9.5/10.”
Night 2 of Kanye’s stop at Sofi was one of the best concerts of all time, having even more songs than night one from superstar guests, including Travis Scott, Lauryn Hill, CeeLo Green, YG, Marley, and more
I talked to Gustavo Campos, who got to experience Night Two of the stop
“10/10 the concert reminded us about the legacy Ye built for himself from a single-parent household in Chicago, to reaching the top falling, and finding the top, falling down, and finding the top again. It was inspirational what he put on at Sofi.”
