“Project Hail Mary” is a really interesting science fiction movie that mixes space adventure with emotion and friendship. The movie stars Ryan Gosling as Rylan Grace, a regular middle school science teacher who ends up on a mission to save the Earth. At first, he wakes up alone in space with no memory, which makes the story feel mysterious right away and grabs the audience’s attention. As the movie continues, he slowly figures out what’s going on and who he is. The audience learns everything with him, making the audience feel like they are part of the story.
One of the best characteristics of the movie is how it balances science and emotions. There is a lot of real science involved, like space travel and biology, but it is not too hard to understand. Instead, it makes the story feel more realistic and exciting. The movie also becomes very emotional, especially when Grace meets an alien he names Rocky. Their friendship becomes the most important part of the story and shows how trust and teamwork can exist even between different species that are from places light-years apart.

“It’s an extraordinary journey, right? I mean, you go to another galaxy, you make an alien best friend, and you save the stars,” Ryan Gosling said in a promotional interview for the film. “The magic trick of the movie is that you’ll die for him [Rocky] at the end.”
This shows how important the friendship between Rocky and Grace is for the movie to be what it is, that by the end of the movie, even the audience will be able to lay down their life for an Alien they have nothing in common with but the way they feel and show emotion.
The visuals in the movie are also very impressive. Space looks beautiful and detailed, which helps make the scenes feel intense and real. The movie does a good job of making the audience feel like they are actually out in space with the characters. At the same time, there are funny moments that make the story lighter, more enjoyable, and just plain more real.
“The movie had me crying over an alien who looked like a rock with crab legs, so yes, I enjoyed the movie a lot,” said ERHS student Rosalia Chavez when asked her thoughts on the movie.
Overall, the movie was phenomenal, combining humor and emotion with real stakes and science. It tells a story about survival, friendship, and hope, and asks the question who in this universe are you willing to sacrifice yourself for.
