It is finally that time of the year when Spotify Wrapped comes out
Spotify Wrapped is a showcase of all the music you’ve listened to and loved the whole year
Spotify Wrapped shows your top artists of the year, top songs, how many minutes you listened to music even shows how high you rank as a listener for your top artist
Spotify Wrapped hasn’t always been what it is now
Spotify’s first version of Wrapped came out in 2015 with “Year In Music”
The next year, in 2016, that is when Spotify renamed “Year In Music” to “Wrapped.”
This is the year that the top songs playlist came to be
In 2019, things took off for Wrapped when Jewel Ham, a Design Intern at Spotify in the summer, made Spotify Wrapped what it is today.
The thing is, Jewel Ham never got credited for her work
On December 2nd of 2020 she took things to Twitter (now know as “X)
Saying “I really invented the Spotify Wrapped story concept as an intern project in 2019, and they haven’t looked back since.”
She even posted the proof
Jewel Ham talked with Refinery29.com about the situation back in 2020 about when she showcased her presentation
“When I gave the presentation at the end of my internship project, it was received really well. They liked the idea. That was my last day.”
I kept thinking when researching is, why does Spotify Wrapped make people become excited to show off their music?
In an article by HarpersBazar.com , they interviewed Geetu Vanjani, a researcher on the Indigo project, about the psychology behind showing off your spotify wrapped
“It becomes a way for us to share parts of ourselves that can reveal so much about who we are.”
I related to this statement very much

When I saw Tyler, The Creator at the top of my list, it was cool to see, knowing still after all these years I’ve been a fan, he’s still my number one artist
I asked other High School Students, Anthony Jimenez and Sebastian Serrano, what their top artists were for the year
Jimenez said, “I had Nba Youngboy as my number one artist.”
Serrano said. “My top artist for the year was Fuerza Regida.”
