Everyone is familiar with the injustices of animal testing. There are a variety of species that are used for the ¨greater good of science¨, however, beagle dogs in particular are used more often due to their forgiving nature.
The Beagle Freedom Project states that beagles are the number one breed of choice for testing because of their friendly and docile nature. The same characteristics make them incredible family members, which is why they are exploited by the animal testing industry.
¨They won´t fight back,¨ said a technician at an animal testing laboratory. ¨They let us do anything we want to them, that´s why we like beagles.¨
Beagles are known to be a playful, obedient breed that can be trained into routine habits over time. They´re considered easy to maintain in cages, and they don´t have a tendency to bite when they´re hurt.
Luckily, there are many communities, organizations, and programs that are against animal testing and beagle cruelty.
¨No animal deserves this kind of life just because they´re a friendly breed.¨ Says Anthony Jimenez, a humane society activist.
The Beagle Freedom Project is a well-known organization that rescues and finds homes for animals used in experimental research. They emphasize their movement on educating, legislating, and liberating in order to spread awareness of animal testing and to act against it.
In order to educate people, the BFP has long invested in global education initiatives to raise awareness about animal testing. Through the BFP in Classroom Program, they conduct virtual seminars for children and teens with lessons on being kind to animals and shopping cruelty-free. There is also a Cruelty-Cutter app that can help customers identify cruelty-free products.
The BFP has also been taking strong legislative action by initiating hard-hitting campaigns. They´ve passed their signature Beagle Freedom Bill in over dozens of states in the US, which requires labs to offer up dogs and cats for adoption rather than exterminating them.
There have been a series of liberating rescues that the BFP has done, and they´ve rehabilitated many animals that are subjected to lab testing and other forms of abuse. They´ve given a second chance to more than 3,000 animals, not just dogs, but cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, pigs, goats, horses, mice, rats, alpacas, and even goldfish!
It´s important to support organizations like these that want to make a kinder planet for our animals, and if you want to pitch in on helping, you can join or donate to the Beagle Freedom Project or join your local Humane Society club.
