On January 15, the Los Angeles Dodgers acquired Kyle Tucker via free agency. Tucker, a World Series champion, four-time All-Star, two-time Silver Slugger, and Gold Glove winner, signed a contract worth 240 million dollars over four years. This signing, arguably, makes the already star-studded Los Angeles Dodgers even more of a threat
The Dodgers, coming into this off-season, needed to address two issues: their outfield and the bullpen. These two issues were addressed perfectly with the additions of Kyle Tucker in the outfield and Edwin Diaz in the bullpen.
The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired Edwin Diaz on December 12, 2025, where he signed a deal worth 69 million dollars spanning over three years.
Edwin Diaz is the biggest name when it comes to closers in the MLB. He is a three-time All-Star and three-time Reliever Of the Year and all MLB First team in 2022.
But with these two acquisitions, the media is speculating there will be no MLB 2027 season, claiming the Dodgers are ruining baseball.
Anthony Angellio from the Quinnipiac Chronicle was one of the many mad at the Dodgers. “This is not just about jealousy. I am a huge fan of MLB, with the big moments and stars it creates. What gets under my skin is how predictable the ending has become (referring to the MLB offseason). When the Dodgers want someone, 99.9 percent of the time, they get them,” Angellio wrote in an article.
But Lou Merloni from the “310 To Left” Podcast had a different take on this.
“No there not as a matter of fact, I think the Dodgers did more last off-season,” Merloni said in the episode. “They won what, 93 games? They had the sixth-best record in baseball, I think. Are they a great team? Yes. Did they win back to back world series? Yes. Did the Blue Jays have a chance to beat them? Yeah, they did.”
“When baseball had the highest attendance they had in years… You can make the argument that the Dodgers are saving baseball,” Merloni continued.
I interviewed Jake Castro, a baseball player for the University of La Verne, if he thinks the 2027 MLB Season would be effectively “canceled” because of this.
“No, I do not think it will be ‘canceled,'” Castro said.
I also asked high school student Jayden Marshall his thoughts on the 2027 MLB season.
“I think the MLB will be starting a salary cap starting next season because the more fans that complain about the Dodgers ruining baseball, the more fans will stop watching, and tickets and merchandise sales will start to slow down, which isn’t good for the MLB,” Marshall said. “However, me being a Dodger fan, I believe all big-name teams can do the same thing the Dodgers are doing, but they’re simply just not, because they’re so focused on what the Dodgers are doing and who they’re looking to add to the roster and try to outbid them.”
The CBA, which stands for Collective Bargaining Agreement, is an agreement between the players and the organization owners that oversees free agency, how trades work, contracts, and just anything in general between the players and the organizations.
If you didn’t know, after the 2026 MLB season, the CBA expires.
The last time the CBA expired was after the 2021 season, when it lasted from December 1 to March 10 of 2022. When they came to an agreement, the new CBA featured a twelve-team playoff format and the universal DH (designated hitter rule), and this agreement lasted until after the 2026 MLB season.
When the MLB Collective Bargaining Agreement expires, a lockout occurs, which means all free agents are not allowed to sign with teams, and trades are not allowed to happen. If the lockout were to go into the MLB season, games are not allowed to be played, thus potentially causing issues for the season.
