From April 23 to April 26, the NFL draft took place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This year’s NFL draft marked the 91st Draft that has taken place. The first one was in 1936 and was actually in the same city as the one this year
Coming into this year’s draft, there was really only one name that was thought to be selected at the first pick. That person was Fernando Mendoza out of Indiana, who just won the National Championship against the University of Miami
The Raiders really needed this pick of a QB. The Raiders really entered full rebuild mode this offseason with the addition of former Ravens Center Tyler Linderbaum. The Raiders signed him for a record-breaking contract, three years, $81 million, also adding names like Quay Walker and Nakobe Dean & in the past two drafts, have gotten amazing young talent with Brock Bowers out of Georgia and Heisman runner-up running back Ashton Jeanty.
The most controversial pick off the first round was definitely the Rams’ pick at number thirteen, selecting Ty Simpson, quarterback out of Alabama. This draft pick seems illogical to me and also to many others. Why select Ty Simpson at this pick? I’m not counting out his skills; he’s a good quarterback. The Rams are in a win-now window, and with Matthew Stafford aging, yes, getting a new quarterback sounds like a good plan, but this could have been addressed in next year’s draft or even the year after that. When you are supposed to be in win now mode you should go and add another weapon to your defenese or your offense not add someone for depht whos going to sit behind Matthew Stafford for 2-3 years and by the time he will see the field his rookie deal will almost be up & im all for letting guys sit and develop but waiting that long to let someone get a chance is to long.
The Big Talk in Eastvale, California, recently is how someone who went to Eleanor Roosevelt High School got selected in the First round of the NFL draft. Chris Johnson is a defensive back who was selected at the 27 pick and graduated from ERHS in 2022. In his Senior campaign, he had 62 total tackles and three interceptions. Chris Johnson, after graduating from ERHS, took his talents up to San Diego State University, where he played for three years and was named first team All-American
I asked Erhs Students what they thought about there thought how someone who went to our school got drafted in the first round of the NFL
“I think it’s really cool no one from here really has gotten drafted in the first round of anything,” Sophomore Anthony Jimenez said
“Him getting drafted was crazy, especially since I’m on the football team,” Sophomore Adrian Ortiz said
