There is currently a massive protest in Iran that has been lasting for over 20 days. This protest was caused by many overlapping issues at the same time, such as hyperinflation, power abuse, and dissatisfaction with the leader.
The protest first started in late December and quickly spread around the entire country as rising prices of goods and value drops of Iranian currency made people stand up for ever increasing problem.
Despite protests spreading across the entire country, the government didn’t listen to its people and began oppressing its own citizens even more. They even claim that there are no major protests and that they will shut down protests peacefully.

The Iranian government first cut off the internet in its entire country in hopes of stopping information about protests from spreading, both among citizens and people around the world. However, it did not turn out well as some still figured out how to upload videos and pictures on social media.
After isolating the country from the world, they began gunning down protesters with heavy firearms such as heavy machine guns. They even released soldiers to hunt down protesters who were hiding in the buildings in the city.
Irene Jung, a college student, showed empathy toward Iran and says that our country needs to do something to save those people who are protesting in Iran, even though they are far away.
“Terrible things are happening, and I think we should still care about what’s happening in a country that’s on the other side of the world from us,” said Jung.
James Chen, another college student, said that the violent actions by the Iranian government should be stopped immediately, saying that it is unethical.
“I think shooting down protesters just to keep their mouths shut should be considered a war crime,” Chen said.
Despite the government’s oppression, protesters still put in their effort to resist suppression. Let’s hope the best of these people.
