Lebron James, for the rest of the 25-26 season, is going to wear a patch on his jersey to commemorate him playing in his 23rd season.
The patch features four colors to represent the three franchises he has played for in his career

The navy blue and maroon for the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was playing with them from 2003 to 2010 in these seven seasons, his most notable accomplishments were he won rookie of the year was selected to the All-Star Games six times the league MVP twice in 2005 and 2006, and being the league scoring champion in 2008.
During his second stint with the team, where he played with them from 2014 to 2018. He was an NBA champ in 2016, a four-time all-star, and four time nba all team
The other color on his patch is Bright Red for the Miami Heat. He joined the Miami Heat in 2010 when he became a free agent after his 7 seasons with the Cavaliers.
He joined the team in an iconic fashion, where he announced at the end of the ESPN Tv special “The decision.” where he announced at the end of the special he was going to join the Miami Heat with the famous line “In this fall I’m going to take my talents to South Beach and join the Miami Heat.”
During his time with the Miami Heat, he was an NBA Champion twice, was a four-time all-star, four time all nba, and 3 time NBA all defensive first team
The final color on the patch is Yellow for his current team, the Los Angeles Lakers. He joined the Lakers in 2018 after entering free agency from his second stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he ended his stint there with a Series loss in the finals to the Warriors, who got swept.
The Laker part of his career has been kind of weird in his second season, they won a championship, but fans like to discredit the Championship saying it does not hold the weight that other finals wins do, because it was no fan enviorment
Lebron argued this point on a talk show he went to and stated, “I been a part of two teams thats won the two hardest championships in NBA league history. You would never ever understand how hard it was to win that championship to be able to motivate yourself to be out of your whole comfort zone. I didn’t see my family for eight and a half weeks.”
Besides the finals win, they missed the playoffs the year that Lebron got there in the 2018-2019 season, and also missed in the 2021-22 season. They lost in the first round of the playoffs in the 2020-21, 2023-24, and 2024-25 seasons and made the Western Conference finals, one time after the championship win in the 2022-23 season
I asked students around campus if they think Lebron James is going to retire this year since he is wearing the twenty-three season patch on his jersey.
Sophomore Anthony Jimenez said, “He’ll play one more year after this, so he can get his farewell tour. The patch doesn’t really mean anything.”
Freshman Julio Castro stated, “Lebron wearing a twenty-three-year patch feels like a full circle moment, honoring how long he’s been defining the game. It makes you wonder if he’s signaling that the journey is nearing its end and retirement might be closer than he’s letting on. But I think that he is just building up to come back stronger next season.”
