We are less than a month away from the 2026 Super Bowl, and the possible competitors have narrowed down to eight remaining teams. One of those teams is the New England Patriots, who have taken up many headlines since the beginning of their surprising season due to their unexpected stretch of 14 wins and three losses.
Their 2023 and 2024 seasons had ended with only four wins, and the team had cycled through many quarterbacks since star player Tom Brady left the team. During the last two seasons, they were also coached by Bill Belichick, who had been the coach for 24 seasons before parting with the team in 2024.
In 2025, the Patriots hired Mike Vrabel to replace their long-time coach, as well as drafting the then 21-year-old rookie, Drake Maye. Maye, who is only in his second year of being a quarterback, has led the struggling team to their most victorious season since 2021.

Maye has thrown over 4,000 yards and 31 touchdowns this season, which has led to more consistency in the Patriots’ offense this year. Maye has shown impressive confidence in the pocket and quick thinking skills that have contributed greatly to the team’s fortune.
The Patriots’ defense has also been notable. They have allowed fewer points per game than in their previous seasons, and they have shown strong pass coverage that has helped the team have more control during their games.
When the Patriots won the AFC East recently, it was a major milestone for New England, as it marked their first division title since their 2019 season. The team steadily improved throughout the season and relied on consistency in their game play.
During a post-game press conference on December 28th, 2025, Patriots coach Vrabel spoke to journalists on how the team will continue to succeed. Vrabel stated, “…it’s like standing true to what we believe in, working hard, and finishing. We’re on the right track, I’ll say that.”
After the AFC East win, Adrian Vega, who is a senior at Eleanor Roosevelt High School and a newer Patriots fan, shared his opinions on the team’s surprising season. Vega commented, “This season has already been a major turnaround, not just for the Patriots but by NFL standards in general. Going from 4-13 to 14-3 shows just how drastic their rebuild has been.” Vega continued, “If the Patriots stay composed, they’re more than capable of pulling off more wins.”

Around Massachusetts, many fans of the team share the same sentiment and hope to see the Patriots compete in Super Bowl 60, and hopefully have a long-lasting legacy of success.
