As of this year, Penn State’s women ‘s volleyball team started its season around late August-early September, and the team appears to be struggling. Right now, their win-to-loss ratio is 13:9. Although they have more wins than losses, having nine losses is still a big deal, especially because there´s only a four-game difference between the two. This might not seem that severe due to the fact that there´s still so much of the season left; however, in comparison to their most recent season in 2024, fans can tell they aren´t doing well. In 2024, the team had a groundbreaking 35:2 win-to-loss ratio, making it one of their strongest seasons in history.
¨After their insane game against Nebraska, I haven´t heard much from them… I just naturally assumed they were having a hard time gaining that attraction back onto the court,” said Seanna Wimbush, a former student and athlete at ERHS.
As we know, the final scores don´t reflect how the match truly went. It may look like Penn State has lost its fight from last year on paper, but really, their offensive and defensive stats have been doing well. Their offensive power, in particular, has been winning them games and closing sets for them.
Their top scorer is their right side player, Kennedy Martin, a Junior at Penn State who is a crucial member of the team due to her strong qualities. She´s efficient, well-rounded, aggressive, and knows how to lift her teammates up and push momentum forward. She has an average of seven kills per set, and earlier in the season, she had managed to get over twenty kills within eleven matches.
¨Kennedy´s literally clip farming and deserves more credit for her skill like Harper Murray.¨ said Delisha Azad, a big fan of Kennedy´s presence on the court.
Defensively, on the other hand, the team has been inconsistent with their plays, and often becomes offset during serve receive or tight net action, causing them to lose the point.
PSU has definitely done better in the past; however, support for their team has never faltered, and the athletes who work restlessly to be on this team are definitely more than capable of securing more wins as the season continues.
