Due to the ongoing government shutdown, SNAP benefits will be suspended starting November 1. Trump’s administration, deeming SNAP benefits unnecessary, has decided to stop funding them. Many families around the country use SNAP benefits to put food on the table so their families can survive and eat.
Approximately 12% of all US households receive SNAP benefits. This translates to over 42 million Americans. When SNAP benefits get cut, it will affect so many lives.
“Many more people will start stealing because they will have no other option,” said Gloria Singleton, ERHS office adviser. “It’s funny that we pay taxes on so many other useless things, but the government thinks the one thing we’re mad or don’t need to pay taxes on is the thing actually helping other Americans.”

Many people are saying that it’s the government’s job to help all Americans, not just the rich. Many are pointing out that Donald Trump has not stopped construction on his ballroom, which is costing money, but he is stopping the funding of SNAP benefits, with some saying that taking care of the American people is more important than a ballroom.
“The Trump administration has the legal authority and funds to get November SNAP benefits out the door,” said democratic representative Angie Craig in a statement to the News Outlet of the United States (NOTUS). She added that “They [the Trump administration] are illegally withholding food from 42million Americans, and it’s shameful”.
