High School is infamous for Friday night football games, otherwise known as “Friday Night Lights,” and ERHS is no exception. The ERHS student section is always packed with ecstatic students in spirit wear who passionately support the Mustangs at every opportunity. But how are these games organized? How are the themes for the games picked? Well, ASB is responsible for putting these fantastic games together.
ASB stands for Associated Student Body, which means they are students who help organize school events and activities. ASB puts together most events ERHS has from Homecoming to Club Rush. But another thing ASB is responsible for is football games. Specifically, decorations and themes.
This past football game on Oct. 10 was themed Red, White and Blue. Students showed up decked out in patriotic gear, prepared to cheer on the Mustangs as they played against Norco High School. The next game on Oct. 17, was Pink Out and Senior Night against Bowie.

One of Eleanor Roosevelt High School’s rally commissioners, Kate Delatorre, who is a junior, talked about ASB processes for home football games.
“ASB honestly chooses themes based off of what is trending on TikTok or Instagram at the moment,” Delatorre said. “Then, of course, there are designated nights like Pink Out for breast cancer awareness and Black Out for senior night.
“Coming to the games and wearing spirited clothing counts as an assignment for the ASB class, so the football games are really important to us,” Delatorre added. “It takes us about a month to plan for the games, so that means we take our time with the signs and decorations.”
Another rally commissioner, junior Sanya Sud, said, “Our main decoration is the signs. Since we usually know about all the games after the first rally of the school year, we have a brainstorming session a little while before the game and then we just start working on our posters. We buy streamers and balloons, and put them up on the day of the game.”
Sud continued, “ASB sets up the games and then they clean up afterwards. Our call time is usually six o’clock in the evening until about ten o’clock at night.”
Even during the games, ASB students and advisors are hard at work to ensure every participant has a safe and enjoyable experience. Friday football games are more than just a fun activity for students, they are well-coordinated and thoughtful events that are organized by your Associated Student Body.
