Take a Knee.

Harmony Johnson

A select group of football players have recently been taking a knee during the national anthem right before their games. Odd? right? Normally during the national anthems people stand, to show respect for our nation and all that we’ve accomplisheed. Few have started kneeling for many different reasons, for example racism, not supporting the president of the united states etc. There are many americans that are outraged over those who are kneeling, they are upset due to their beliefs that you should show respect by standing and saluting the flag during the national anthem. In my opinion their protest is inspiring especially to those who have dealt with oppression and racism in the past. I can understand how some people find it disrespectful because according to Nicholas R. it’s disrespectful because “I have served this country for over 8 years and I believe that when people stand during the national anthem and the pledge it is our military respect for all that we have sacrificed for this country.” The history behind America makes me want to kneel when the pledge begins or during the national anthem. Whether you take a knee or don’t it is important to remember that we are all human and we should learn to respect others beliefs and opinions.
