The Dune movies are on track to become one of the greatest film trilogies of all time. From the first film to what we expect from the third film, everything about these movies feels big, serious, and meaningful. They are not just sci-fi movies; they tell a cautionary tale about power, destiny, and what one would do to survive.
One reason Dune stands out is its world-building. The desert planet Arakis is just the top of the iceberg, with its giant sandworms, harsh environment, and valuable spice. The movies take their time to explain and define what this world means to the rest of the Dune universe, which helps the audience connect to the story and understand why it matters so much. Unlike many fast-paced films of today, Dune is patient with its storytelling, and that makes it feel more important and monumental.
I asked ERHS junior Rosie Chavez what she thought about the Dune movies. She proceeded to state, “I’m very excited for the new one coming out in December, I think, and I can’t wait for how they will end the trilogy, but also sad that it is ending.” This just shows how good the movies are. You want to see more new content from the story, but you don’t at the same time, because that means the story will come to an end.

Another reason the trilogy is so strong is the acting. The cast brings an emotional depth to the story. Timothee Chalamet, who plays the main protagonist, Paul Atreides, conveys such good emotion, which brings the story to life and makes the stakes feel so real. He conveys the struggle between doing what’s right and what he is destined to do so well through playing Paul. Which then, in return, keeps the audience invested in what will happen.
The Visuals and sound are also very amazing. Hans Zimmer gives the movie such emotional weight and tension through the score he wrote and conducted. The cinematography makes every scene look like a painting. These elements work together to create a powerful experience in theaters. Director Denis Villeneuve even said in an interview with Sharp Magazine, “I’m trying… to create images that will bring the necessary meaning to the scene.” This shows how much effort he puts into making every part of the movie and how passionate he is about his creation.
Dune is on track to feel like a complete story. Many trilogies get worse over time, such as the comedy trilogy “The Hangover,” the sci-fi action trilogy “Transformers,” and many more. But Dune keeps building into something bigger with each film. If the final movie continues this quality, it will be remembered for a long time.
Overall, Dune has everything a great trilogy needs: strong storytelling, powerful acting, and incredible visuals. Because of this, it will likely go down as one of the best movie trilogies ever made.

Zendaya’s “Dune” skin in Fortnite is such a sweaty “pros use it” skin.
