At Eleanor Roosevelt High School, there is a tradition that’s been circling around for a few years. The week before Thanksgiving break, typically a Friday, ASB hosts a staff Thanksgiving feast. This year it’s on Friday, November 21. During both lunches, staff have the opportunity to go and grab this special lunch.
This meal includes many traditional dishes served at a Thanksgiving feast. This year, there is turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, Mac n’ cheese, green beans, corn, ham, stuffing, potato salad, and a salad bar. For dessert, there is an assortment of cookies, pumpkin pie, apple pie, trays of cupcakes, and different types of cake. They had choices of different sodas and water to drink.

“ASB made posters to decorate, though the tables and chairs were set up for us already,” ASB member Leah Almirantearena explains. “We’re also handing out food to all the staff with the help of Renaissance. Shout-out to Ms. Valdez, my math teacher from last year. She’s an absolute legend and is so nice. She always lets us into her office hours.”
Located in the cafeteria, the Thanksgiving feast was decorated with posters and warm autumn colors to celebrate. Tables were set up for the staff to enjoy themselves and laugh with one another. Many staff expressed great gratitude for working at the school and for their lives.

“I’m grateful for my family, especially my little one. I enjoy working here at Roosevelt and teaching math,” says Annette Turner, a Math 3 teacher at ERHS.
“I love the turkey feast, and this year I brought green beans. Last year I brought Mac n’ Cheese,” added Turner.
Physics teacher Rielle Varela also discussed what she is grateful for.
“I’m thankful for my health and my family, and my awesome friends. I really enjoy working here, in fact, I was thinking about moving to LA, but I don’t know if I could ever leave this place. I do enjoy the turkey feast, even if I’m vegan. I really enjoy hanging out with people.”
This year, everyone is thankful for something, whether it be family, friends, health, or whatever else comes to mind. Staff at Eleanor Roosevelt enjoy working here and appreciate the work that’s put into making everything run smoothly and happen. This year, the Staff Thanksgiving feast was a wonderful success.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving Break, Mustangs!
