Popular children’s book, Pinkalicious, has become one of around 400 now banned books in Wilson County, Tennessee. Pinkalicious and majority of the other books listed were removed for strange and insignificant reasons. While this Tennessee law went into effect on July 1st, 2024, the topic was brought up again by the official Pinkalicious Instagram account on February 6th.

On February 6th, 2025, the official Pinkalicious Instagram, “iampinkalicious“, posted a statement on the ban, claiming the reason for it was because “Pinkalicious is about eating in moderation.” This reason doesn’t match with the story’s message, since the post also explains that “The message is to love yourself just the way you are and eat healthy food.”
Not to mention how News Channel 5 claims that the law was only supposed to get rid of “…access to books containing references to sex and violence…” and “…books that contain graphic content deemed inappropriate for school-aged children.”, which Pinkalicious has none of. Given these circumstances, the plot of Pinkalicious seems harmless.
With more on the banned books, Nashville Banner shares the full record, with grade listings from high school to elementary. Some of the popular titles that are now banned in Wilson County are the entire Jujutsu Kaisen manga series, all books relating to Attack on Titan, volumes 1, 2, and 3 of The Umbrella Academy, Clockwork Orange, Fight Club, Where the Crawdads Sing and The Hate U Give. Only five of all books mentioned were children’s books, some of the more memorable titles being No, David!, Wacky Wednesday, and of course, Pinkalicious.
In these times, we are watching beloved books become inaccessible to youth left and right, all for the most unimportant of reasons. Books are made for the sake of telling stories and sharing creativity, and it is sad to see works that people put heart and soul into become hidden from the public, all for such minor causes. Society becomes more and more dystopian by day, and given our current state of constant book bans, I believe it’s only a matter of time until we are left to live our lives as soulless citizens in a world without originality or imagination.

Great article and I really agree with your statements at the end, It’s such a shame that books are banned at all. I know my three girls all loved Pinkalicious when they were younger- it was a nightly bedtime read! Keep up your good journalism work, girl!!
