The varsity Color Guard team at ERHS has officially started their new parade season, and their first competition will be  this upcoming Saturday October 13, at Azusa High School. The team will be competing against schools such as Diamond Ranch, Downey, and Glendora.

The members of the team have been practicing diligently and hope to bring home a win for their first competition of the parade season. Normal practice hours for a competition include around 11 hours a week with three and half hour practices, twice a week.

With that much rehearsal, the team is determined to make a great first impression at the competition.  Last season, our ERHS Color Guard team won their ultimate championship, and hope to do so again, but are taking it one competition at a time. For their first performance of the parade season, Color Guard is not holding any creativity back for the upcoming competition called the “Golden Days Parade.”

Jazmyn Andrews, a three year member of the team, and varsity front flag, says the first competition of the season calls for appropriate jitters. She feels nervous, “Because I think I’ll mess up and our score might be bad.” Fellow team member, Alayna Davidson, also a three year member and varsity front flag, says that she too feels “Pretty nervous, but confident in our ability to perform the show we know… I know we’ll do great either way.”

Back in 2016, during Andrew and Davidson’s freshmen year on the team, there was over 70 team members, now two years later, there’s around 37. Davidson recalls that the drastic change in team members is because “Our program has become more intense as we continue to move up divisions.”

With their numbers so low, the team is on the look out for more dedicated people to join. Davidson says, “If you are even slightly interested in joining, try out!” Additional members have the option to try out for next semesters’ season, and next year.
