2018’s Olympic games brought along a number of surprises and an overflow of unbelievable acts, ranging on everything from record-breaking performances to gold medal candidates failing to make it to the podium. For example the United States had both of these incidents happen to them: Figure Skaters, Nathan Chen and Mirai Nagasu, shaped history with their performances on ice but failed to make it on the podiums (They did both take home bronze medals like the rest of their team). Mikaela Shiffrin had earned one gold and one silver medal but she missed the podium by a hair in her signature slalom event. While also pulling out of the downhill event at the Olympic Games. But from all those falling shorts to getting on the podium the United States had some surprises like when the women’s ice hockey team beat Canada’s women ice hockey team for gold for the first time in 20 years. Also during the snowboarding event the snowboarders Chloe Kim, Jamie Anderson, Shaun White, and Red Gerard dominated this sport’s podium of gold winners
