February

Harmony Johnson

February is the shortest month of the year.

This month is important for many reasons. One reason is because it’s black history month! During this month we celebrate African American people and our culture. There are many black men and women who have been a huge impact in our world today. Slavery, racism and prejudice didn’t stop many of those brave and intelligent minds from achieving greatness.

People don’t always realize how big of an impact African Americans have had on this earth and this month puts the spotlight on past and present African Americans to help us learn and better appreciate all they have done for us.

Abraham Lincoln, our 16th president of the United States of America, was born February 12 1809. On this day we celebrate his accomplishments by having a day off from school. Thank Abraham Lincoln for your four day weekend.

Just wait this month gets even better! Valentines Day is right around the corner, grab your friend, significant other or yourself and enjoy the beautiful day of love. I interviewed Jessica Jones and asked what she had planned for Valentines day and responded, “Every year my mom sets out candies and makes the whole family watch movies together or do fun little activities.”

The next person I interviewed Maddie Gorrie, I asked what she was doing for the day of love and she said “My boyfriend and I are planning on going on to Disneyland for a romantic and fun night.”

Right after Valentines day we have one more day off, Presidents Day! Welcome another four day weekend. Take advantage of this time to catch up on work and rest.
