A disaster drill is a drill where groups of people practice safety procedures for  major disasters.

Disaster drills have a variety from earthquake drills at school to exercises that may span across an entire community. They are practiced to get people familiar with what they have to do during a real disaster. Disasters are a major cause of disruptions in a community or society involving humans, materials, economic or environmental losses and impacts.

On Thursday, the whole school participated in a disaster drill. To start the process, we (the students) went to our second period like any normal day; our classes were shorter and sixth period was one minute longer. In second period,  our teachers told us how the drill was going to happen and what we should do. We then went to fourth period, in which the principal announced over the speaker that we were experiencing an earthquake. So we all got up, ducked and covered under our desks until we were cleared for the first preparation. We got up from under our desks and proceeded outside to follow the rest of the school to the football field where the teachers told us what yard line our class was lining up on. They had signs with your class numbers on it just in case some kids got “lost.” Everyone lined up with their class while the teachers took role and when they were done, we headed back to the classrooms and the drill ended. ERHS student Lorraine Scott said “it was hot” and that “I think it’s good to practice for disasters because you never know when one might happen.”
