Abortion Banned After 20 Weeks Of Pregnancy

On October 3, 2017, the U.S House of Representatives made abortion a crime after 20 weeks of pregnancy by passing a bill that only allows women to obtain abortions under certain conditions, such as getting pregnant during rape or if the woman’s life is at risk during pregnancy. Under the bill, women who receive an abortion would not be sent to jail, but rather those who have performed the procedure would receive a fine and potentially receive up to five years in prison.

The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act bill passed with 237 in support and 189 in disagreement in the house. It has been denied in 2013 and 2015, but this time around made it through. The White House has said Monday that it “strongly supports” the bill and “applauds the House of Representatives for continuing its efforts to secure critical pro-life protections.” The bill will now go to Senate where it needs eight democratic votes to pass which is highly unlikely. President Trump’s Office of Management and Business has expressed support for the bill.
