American Horror Story’s New Fear

Adriana Martinez, Staff Writer

American Horror Story is back this September on its seventh season, Cult, that ties in events from this past year. Previous seasons of American Story have all contained different aspects of horror in it, clowns,  ghost, demons, witches. Season seven is bringing a new aspect of fear to their audience, rather than a fictional overlay on their series, Ryan Murphy, the creator, has brought in the controversial 2016 Presidential Election. With the large amount of disapproval of the election it connects with the audience in a new way that shows a different kind of fear that the people have recently gone through.

The trailer itself displayed the two different perspectives of the election and how it has affected the American people. When watching the first episode you don’t fear for American Horror Story’s usual pop-ups of a fictional being, you fear for the reality, racism, phobias, anxiety, discrimination. Whether on how Ryan Murphy is choosing to display those fears, will most likely contain an ode to the clowns on previous seasons.

In the first episode it had contained phobias, having a large fear of a specific thing, that one of the main characters has and experiences, despite her phobia and anxiety it was triggered with the results of the Election. Which brings a large question on how many other Americans share this new fear with this character?

Senior, Harmony Johnson, shares her take on the trailer and what’s to come this season “In the trailer I was really shocked that AHS decided to throw a lot of shade towards Donald Trump, I thought it was so bold for a TV show to do that. When the main character had screamed at the TV during the results of the election I had felt the same way she did and I was shocked that he had won. I think this season is still gonna be scary but this season will be at the same rate as Coven, involving the election.”
