The beginning of the school year is always an exciting time, as it signals the emergence of new classes, events, activities and sports seasons! While sports such as football and water polo are heating up, girls’ volleyball is preparing to return strong for their upcoming season.

With a new season comes new opportunities, new accomplishments and ultimately a new team. JV volleyball player, Lauren Torres gives some insight on what this transition has been like for her and her teammates. “I’m so lucky to be playing with a great group of girls this season, however it has been difficult from coming back to school and then getting back into the rhythm of volleyball, but I’m excited to see what this season has in store for us!”

As the team is currently in their pre-season, sources claim it’s been progressive and successful so far, as they just played their first preseason game this past Thursday against Ayala High School. “We just recently played our first games, and freshman, junior varsity, and varsity swept Ayala High School this last Thursday.” Varsity volleyball player McKenna Williams reveals.

The variation of teams from freshman to varsity may differ, however all of the teams have a common bond with one another and intend to work together to have a successful season. As for how this season goes, varsity player Cynthia Horta delivers her input on her expectations for this season.

“For this upcoming season, I would expect nothing less from my team from last year. We made it to CIF last year, so our goal is to go again, and hopefully advance in some more rounds.”

And for the team itself, it’s a universal agreement that all the teams intend to grow closer, secure bonds, and create lasting friendships with one another as the season progresses.  With expectations high and a talented group of athletes, this season is looking bright for girls volleyball. Good luck, Lady Mustangs!
