Officer Helps Instead of Punishing

Officer Helps Instead of Punishing

Angel Villarreal, Staff Writer

When an officer responds to a theft at a Family Dollar store, he takes the opportunity to serve with kindness. Officer Milton is called to the Family Dollar store where they were holding a 12 year old girl for stealing. The young girl tells Officer Milton she stole a pair of $2 shoes for her 5-year-old sister because her family cannot afford them. Instead of punishing the girl, Officer Milton decides to drive her home to her family to meet them.

When introduced to the family, he realizes that the 12 year old girl is the oldest out of four children. He also notices that there are not enough beds or food for all four kids in the house. The mother tells Officer Milton that she has no job and can’t afford daycare anymore. The father of the children has a job but does not make enough to live a stable life.

Knowing the tough situation this family is going through, he is compelled to do something kind for them. Milton goes out his way to buy this family 4 boxes of pizza and drinks so they can all eat. Even though Officer Milton does not want any recognition for this, his fellow officers believe this act of kindness should be known.
