Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Review (No Spoilers)

Rich Wang, A&E Editor

On Sunday, I went to the movies and watched Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. I was originally going to see the 12:20 one, but since tickets ran out, I watched the one at 12:50. Seeing the long line, I understood why and decided to quickly find a good seat or else I would have to sit in the front, even though it wasn’t even 12:20 yet. I liked how the movie, just like the previous Guardians of the Galaxy movie, had several old songs that our parents probably grew up with. Not once do I remember hearing a modern song at any point. As a result, I knew more old songs when the movie ended. Not that they were bad, though. They were good, in my opinion.

Surprisingly, Groot (now tiny) is still voiced by Vin Diesel. I honestly thought that someone else would be voicing Groot, considering he now has a baby voice. Something that became more humorous, though, was Drax’s screen time. He’s just as blunt, capricious, and “reckful” as ever. And yes, I meant “reckful” and not “reckless.” If you don’t get it, it’s a reference to the animated Guardians of the Galaxy show in which Drax describes Starlord as “reckful.”

Of course, let’s not forget the credits. There are multiple cutscenes in which there are clues to what will happen as the Marvel storyline gets closer to the Infinity War. Two of the cutscenes are pretty funny, despite not having much to do with the storyline. There are also a couple Easter Eggs in the credits, both involving Groot.

The movie itself was really good, and there were some moments where the entire audience laughed. Admittedly, I laughed too. I guarantee that anyone who sees the movie will know what parts I’m talking about. This is a movie I recommend that you watch, especially since it is confirmed that there will be another Guardians movie with new characters.
