With the month of September coming to an end, Eleanor Roosevelt is starting off strong with Cross Country & Track tryouts having already begun after school on Wednesday, October 1, at the football field where our classmates have been able to demonstrate their physical talents and determination to represent our school on the running track. For the past few days the students of Eleanor Roosevelt have exemplified keen self-discipline in their training in order to become a model runner. An example of one of said students is Alexander Ayala, who’s already tried out for the Cross Country team.
When asked what is the best part about Cross Country and what he would say to someone trying out for the team, he replied that, “The people are very chill, and you can make the team no matter what.” Ayala also mentioned that one of the best advantages of being in any running team is that you can get fast and become more fit. Multiple people have also testified to the environment being welcoming & friendly, which has encouraged many people to join, including Freshman Mia Alt, who has stated that, “It is a very hard-working sport, but worth it due to how we can be around our friends most of the time during practice and competitions.”

Not only has these sports provided a safe area for our peers, but it is also statistically proven that joining can “help build cardiovascular endurance,” according to Sport Stars , as well as being “. . . a sport for all body types and fitness levels. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just starting out, there’s a place for you in Cross Country.” These sources prove that being a runner can improve not only your mental space by being in a kind environment, but also physically, which also improves your life expectancy–-especially if you continue your athletic journey into adulthood. Yet another advantage of the activity is that when the time comes to submit college and university applications, the fact that you are in a challenging sport such as Cross Country or Track will make you stand out, especially if you managed to keep up your grades, community service, as well as other clubs at your school as well.
Students are also given the chance to win scholarships by being in such teams with Men’s Cross Country offering 45 of them, and Women typically being offered 18 available scholarships. With the available resources, it is absolutely possible for any of the team members to win one of them, if they work hard and show their dedication and passion to the sport. Due to all these reasons, it is abundantly clear that anyone in Track has a bright future ahead of them if they continue their endeavors, alongside anyone who wants to follow in their paths.
