The percentage of minors using electronics has increased throughout recent years. Many children and teens are being negatively affected by using and having these electronics in everyday life.
Children who chronically use electronics can be harmful in many ways. Some of the harmful effects are eye discomfort, social problems, and many more. Using electronics right before bed also causes sleep problems. Studies show that people who use electronics before bed have more trouble falling asleep. These problems could cause issues for many more generations as technology advances throughout future years.
Electronics might also have a positive effect on children and teens. They have more resources that they are able to use, and there are certain tech skills that can benefit them later on in life when it comes to getting a job. However, most of the time, children use it to play games or watch videos that will be useless later on.

Many parents give their children electronics at a very young age. This is a very controversial topic that people have different opinions on.
Alex Zhou, a student in the district, believes that children should not be given electronics. He said, “I think toddlers and kids should not be able to use electronics. The reason why is that they are in a state of learning, and electronics could be harmful to their health and could be a danger to their eyes. Kids could also be addicted to electronics.”
Zhou had a good point that kids could become addicted. Electronic addiction is more frequent in older children and teens, but can happen at any age. There are many different forms of addiction when it comes to electronics. There is social media addiction, online shopping addiction, internet gaming addiction, and many more.
Amara Obinwanne, a freshman in the district, believes children should be able to use electronics, but there should be a limit. Obinwanne said, “I think the age matters; however, I think kids should be able to use electronics. It’s fun and can also be used as a learning tool.”
Obinwanne later talked about the effects they will have on kids. She said, “I think kids will be both positively and negatively affected by electronics, it depends on how the electronics are being utilized. If excessive screen time is only going towards useless things, then it is negative. However, if it is used as a tool to learn new things from time to time, then it will positively affect them.”
Electronics such as phones, iPads, computers, and TVs are still somewhat new, and we don’t fully know the future consequences of them. Children should limit the amount of time they spend using their electronics for the sake of future generations.
