Recently at Spyglass Hill, Jordan Spieth hit two under par but it was not as intense as his friend, and associate Justin Thomas who shot 66 in the first round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
Jordan Spieth returned to the PGA tour after his five-month break due to his wrist surgery. His recovery process took eight weeks before he went back to swinging and gripping his putter. Last Thursday was his tournament round after his surgery since the tournament at FedEx St. Jude’s Championship in August.
Tiger Woods, who rarely goes on tournaments now, and Rory Mcllroy, no other PGA tour player as determined as Jordan Spieth but hasn’t won a tournament since the 2022 RBC Heritage has only two wins since his 2017 Open Championship victory. The first step in Spieth’s next act On Thursday had cold and chilly conditions.
Jordan Spieth stated, “Starting it out felt like I was starting at a major.”
He first began his round on the back nine and shot 3-under par and was feeling more confident. However he had a setback on the 10th hole, the sand was firm and jammed his wrist pretty well, leading him to have discomfort for the rest of the round.
“The sand was firm and it got (the wrist) pretty good and it kind of locked up. I couldn’t hit an iron shot from there so I just played really poorly. I just had to get it in.” Spieth adds on.
Despite the challenges he faced, he ended the round with a 2-under par. Reflecting on his play he stated how his wrist affected his performance. “My wrist kind of hurt in the first round last week and I went away from all the work that I had been doing just to kind of manipulate what I could.”
As he continued to play, the challenges and setbacks he faced only made him stronger as he showed commitment throughout the round.
I interviewed a freshman Srinivasan Harini Sudharsan and he stated, “I think he showed determination throughout the round.”
I also interviewed a junior Ethan Lee and he stated, “I like how his wrist injury didn’t stop him from quitting.”
