On Tuesday, November 19 2024, Eleanor Roosevelt High School’s ASB will be hosting a blood drive in the cafeteria from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm. ASB is partnering with Life Stream, a non-profit blood bank, to bring this blood drive to Eleanor Roosevelt High School.
To donate you must be 15 years or older, must be at least 115 lbs, and must have no infections or illnesses. If you are under the age of 17, you must provide a parental consent form that can be found at ERHS or on Life Stream’s website
By donating blood you could help people of all ages. Your blood could help and be donated to burn and accident victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and people fighting cancer. A blood transfusion could help save the lives of cancer patients and other patients with other conditions. By donating blood you could save even more than just one person’s life. A single unit of blood can be separated into red blood cells, platelets, and plasma. This can go to several different people, which could ultimately save their lives. If you are unsure about donating blood, please consider the previous reasons. Donating blood could change someone’s life.
Tips to keep in mind before donating blood include drinking an extra 16 oz. of water before you appointment, eat a healthy meal, wear a shirt with sleeves that you can roll above your elbows, let the person drawing blood know if you have a preferred arm or vein that you were able to successfully draw blood from in the past, and relax while you donate blood. After donating blood be sure to keep a bandage on your arm for several hours after the donation to avoid a skin rash. do not do heavy lifting or a lot of exercise for the rest of the day, if where your blood was taken begins to bleed apply pressure and raise your arm straight up for five to ten minutes or until the bleeding stops, if you are experiencing lightheadedness or dizziness sit down until you feel better, and eat foods with plenty of iron.
Student at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, Aarav Sakhareliya, stated, “Donating blood not only saves the person but the family behind them. Therefore you should help someone by donating blood.”
“I think people should consider donating blood because they have a chance at saving someone’s life. Even if people donate a small amount of blood, it can make a really big difference.” Kyna Mishra, a student at ERHS, stated.
Donating blood could save several people’s lives and could help people fight against serious conditions. Consider donating blood at ERHS’s blood drive, hosted by ASB ,on November 19, 2024.
