CIF Playoffs: Round 1

Coming off an impressive undefeated season in the Big VIII Division, the Varsity Boys’ Basketball team is headed for round two of the CIF Open-Division Playoffs, this being their third year in a row. The boy’s now have a 19-6 record as they defeated the Redondo Union Sea Hawks, Friday night, in the first round of playoffs, with a final score of 81-70.

Roosevelt started the contest wining the tip-off followed by an aggressive 5-0 run, lead by Jemarl Baker’s 3-point basket to start the game. The Cal Berkeley commit scored 11 of the team’s first 15 points and a total of 31 points on the game.  Adding to the excitement of this first round win, Matthew Mitchell was remarkable at the free throw line, as the Sea Hawks continued to foul him, making 13 of his 14 attempts from the line. Mitchell had a total of 23 points in tonight’s contest! With the score tied at 62-62 in the 4th quarter, the mustangs went on a 6 and 0 run and the rest was history.

The next game is scheduled for Tuesday, February 21, against the Mater Dei Lions, at a neutral site (TBA), starting at 7 pm, for the second round of the CIF Open-Division Playoffs! Come out to cheer on your fellow mustangs!
