Celtics Sweep The Nets

Celtics Sweep The Nets

Jacob Bryant

Something completely unexpected happened last night when the prohibitive favorites to win the Finals had a first round exit to the Boston Celtics.  Now after the Nets won their play-in game and they had the Celtics first my money was on Boston to win the series considering how well they have been playing since January especially on the defensive side of the ball. I thought this series would go all the way to seven games especially considering how good Game 1 was, but clearly I was mistaken.  Brooklyn came out in the series looking completely unaware of the fact that they are in the playoffs, when you have two generational talents in Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant players who have redefined the game of basketball get an early round exit via a sweep that raises a lot of questions. And it doesn’t even just start during the playoffs this whole season has been a disaster for Brooklyn from start to finish, Kyrie doesn’t want to get the vaccine, Kevin Durant gets hurt and goes out for a month which leads James Harden to carry this team by himself, and then James Harden gets traded to Philly in exchange for Ben Simmons and some other players.

Now Ben Simmons is a separate issue it was reported he would be back for game four and he said he wasn’t going to play. I don’t want to go too much on a rant about Ben Simmons but it seems like Basketball isn’t his main priority right now, but if he comes back and plays in Game 4 or  even Game 3 I don’t think they get swept I actually think they barley get passed the Celtics if he plays.  But for the people who did play for the Nets more specifically Kevin Durant, he played the worst basketball I have seen him play in his entire career.

Minus dropping 39 points in Game four he wasn’t playing well, Jason Tatum did an amazing job defending Kevin Durant.  Now a big issue with the Nets falling apart was James Harden getting traded, Scott Cacciola a sports writer for the New York times said, “The Net’s brain trust has some work to do in the wake of the turbulent season …”  The Nets season wasn’t ideal and then the James Harden trade made a bad situation more complicated.  Like I said I am going to cover Ben Simmons until another article but I just want to say I think the Nets took a massive gamble in picking him up. I get it, it might be a mental thing why he isn’t coming back but at the same time if he knew he wasn’t going to come back he should’ve just said so. Instead of giving the Nets hope that he was going to return and possibly resurrect Brooklyn from their 3-0 series deficit.
