The city of Eastvale has recently filled its position of CNUSD Student Liaison; Eleanor Roosevelt student and ASB president, Michael Roman.

” I love doing it, being in a position where I can not only be a spokesperson for the school, but a spokesperson for all the schools in our city is definitely a dream come true,” said Roman.

This position is used to increase the communications between the City Council and local schools. Roman had this to say when asked about his responsibilities;

” What my position requires me to do is email every principle in our city, from there I basically ask them ‘Hey, how are all of you doing. What’s going great in your school, what’s going great with your students, what’s great with your staff members; whether it be a custodian, security guard or just a regular teacher or clerk’. If they’re doing something great I want to hear about it.”

Using the information given by the cities principals a speech is compiled, which is then presented at community meetings every other Wednesday. Using this information the City Council is able to make decisions that do not conflict with the interest of local schools.

Another responsibility that falls to Roman is keeping the schools informed about city projects and actions that directly effect them, “wether that be a new crosswalk or wether it be something in our city that could effect school traffic. I mark them down and send that back to the principles; so basically I report back and forth.” I ask each principal to submit one member of their staff that they want me to highlight at our city council meetings. Someone who has done just a great job and deserves a pat on the back.”

In order to set himself apart from both past and future student liaisons, Roman has implemented the “stellar staff member”. This is a way for school faculty to be recognized for their kindness and hard work. ” I ask each principal to submit one member of their staff that they want me to highlight at our city council meetings. Someone who has done just a great job and deserves a pat on the back.”

” I think the student liaison is a great position,” said community member Atif Elkadi; ” it is a great way for schools and the community to be connected and it also shows the younger generation that they are able to have an active role in not only their school but their city.”

City Council meetings are every Wednesday at 6:30 at City Hall which is located at 12363 Limonite Avenue, Ste. 910, Eastvale, California.
