This week on May 2, 2019, evidence has come out that the State Department has helped at least seven foreign governments to rent luxury condos at the Trump Tower in New York back in 2017.

According to ABC news, “congressional staffers confirmed to Reuters that the Trump World Tower lease requests were never submitted to Congress.” The U.S State Department has violated the emoluments clause in the Constitution under the Title of Nobility Clause. This has been revealed first by Reuters, another news company that had scrutinized Trump’s presidency in its infancy stage. According to Reuters, “the records show that in the eight months following Trump’s January 20, 2017 inauguration, foreign governments sent 13 notes to the State Department seeking permission to rent or renew leases in Trump World Tower.” This evidence has proven that the Trump Organization has clearly disregarded in confronting the Congress about the foreign leases.

The 1982 Foreign Missions Act has stated specifically about the foreign governments to get State Department clearance for any purchase, lease, sale, or other use of a property in the United States and these clearances were not made to the Congress. This action of the U.S. State Department was not in the wrong as the Secretary of State must look over the contract in order to clear it and let the foreign governments to stay at the Trump Tower.

However, the emoluments clause in the Constitution still stand. Along the line, it is also stated on Politico that President Trump is getting paid by foreign governments to stay at his hotels and many other places located all over the country. Most of his assets are overseas and his name is signed on everything. Pledging false promises, President Trump has been called out for his private dealings with a lawsuit against him only to be dismissed by the Justice Department back in 2017.

President Trump’s scandals with tax evasion, using the White House as a public platform for his own business, having connections with Russia during his campaign and etc. have put many Americans on then edge of trusting President Trump.
