My Current Favorite Music

My Current Favorite Music

Alyssa White, Staff Writer

Music has been around forever, and overtime, musicians have changed their sounds and styles. Some new musicians have flipped music on its head by introducing new beats, rhythms, and sounds. Bold and experienced musicians have been known to mix genres to make a fusion of beats by incorporating different styles. These fusion mixes are the foundation for a great song and I for one, appreciate a good beat.

I have loved music since I was a little girl. My first favorite band was the same as every other 6 year-old’s, The Cheetah Girls. Then I moved on to Hannah Montana, another obvious choice. After that, The Jonas Brothers and from there, Big Time Rush. The most obvious out of all of these past favorites, is that after my interest in Big Time Rush subsided, I dove hardcore into One Direction. Yes, I was very typical in my music choice as a child.

Since then my music interests have changed a lot. Of course I still love “bubble gum” music from pop bands, but I also love alternative, acoustic, and Christian music. Weird mix, I know.

Here’s a list of my current top 10 favorite songs.

1. 8  – Billie Eilish

2. Give In To Me – Samuel Larsen

3. Whole Heart (Hold Me Now) – Hillsong UNITED

4. You Hold My Heart – CYA Worship

5. Ode To Sleep – Twenty One Pilots

6. Cut My Lip – Twenty One Pilots

7. Everybody Talks – Neon Trees

8. Jet Pack Blues – Fall Out Boy

9. Helena (So Long & Goodnight) – My Chemical Romance

10. Meet Me in the Hallway – Harry Styles

These are the songs that have been on my playlist for a while now and they always make me feel good. For me, I listen to music for multiple reasons and during certain seasons of my life. Billie Eilish is for when I feel moody, Samuel Larsen and Neon Trees are for when I need a good upbeat dance, Hillsong UNITED and CYA Worship are for when I need some Jesus in my life, Twenty One Pilots are especially needed when I feel emotional, Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance are essential for when I feel like I need to scream, and Harry Styles is when I need a good love song to cry about.

Like me, Jazmyn Andrews, ERHS junior, listens to music sometimes for more than just entertainment, but to feel something. She says,

I realized I was only listening to music that I knew all the lyrics to and I wasn’t listening to the music that really spoke to me… so I decided to listen to more of the lyrics rather than [the] popular songs.

Whether you listen to music just to have background noise, or it you listen to feel the emotional connection to the lyrics, music is universal, for everyone. All of the songs listed above can be heard on YouTube, Apple Music, and Spotify, so Mustangs, when you get a chance, check them out! Happy listening!
