Thanksgiving- What it stands for

Thanksgiving-+What+it+stands+for

Thanksgiving is the time to celebrate what we have and enjoy the company of family. Sitting around the table, we talk with each other and enjoy a great meal through dinner; it is usually expected to consist of vegetables, mashed potatoes with gravy, and the ever-so-famous turducken, a chicken stuffed inside a duck stuffed inside a turkey. Or just a typical turkey or duck or chicken.

The widely celebrated holiday in the United States became important during the English Reformation and was a result of the large amount of religious holidays on the Catholic calendar. The tradition was later carried to the Americas by Puritans and Pilgrims. To be honest, I never knew that. Then again, I don’t really know much about the history of holidays.

I know for sure that I’m going to have an awkward Thanksgiving, since it’s probably going to be just me, my mom, and my sister. Chances are, we won’t really have anything to talk about.

But that doesn’t matter. Thanksgiving is meant to be spent with family, cherishing what we have. So when you gather around the table, remember that no matter what, be happy and thankful with what you have.
