2019 Girls Water Polo CIF Championships

This Saturday February 16, 2019 the lady Mustangs Varsity Water Polo team competed in the CIF division five championship game.

The Lady Mustangs faced off against the Valley View Eagles at the Irvine Woollett center at 10:50 am on Saturday.

While the girls were trailing in by the end of the first period the team pulled ahead with a 7-6 lead at halftime.

The ladies kept their lead through the end of the game with a final score of 12-8, becoming the 2019 Division Five Champions!

With an impressive season record of 25-4-0, the ladies utilized the teamwork they developed through the season to pull out another win, securing them as champions.

Following the first round against Temecula Valley with a 11-5 win, the girls continued on their track to the championship. Roosevelt then faced off against Marymount high school with a final score of 12-9 in the second round on February 7, 2019. Two days later San Juan Hills lost to the Roosevelt Mustangs in the quarter finals following a final score of 13-6. The semi-finals held February 13th at Murrieta valley high school the Mustangs came out on top with a 10-6 win.

Finally on February 16th, head coach Tyler Harp lead the girls to a 12-8 victory against the Valley View Eagles.

“I think we did well at pulling together when it was stressful,” said goalie Samantha Murphy “and we did well at keeping calm in emotional situations. We didn’t let the pressure get to us.”

The Girls Varsity Water Polo is now heading to state and we wish our fellow Mustangs luck in bring home the title.
