Even though the new school year started just less than a month ago, our musical theatre program at ERHS has been hard at work as auditions and casting for the upcoming musical, Willy Wonka Jr., have  already occurred, and the  show is already in production!

Willy Wonka Jr., according to our theatre director Mrs. Frost, “Willy Wonka Jr. is based on the Ronald Dahl’s “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” story. It tells the tale of a poor, young Charlie Bucket and four other children as they find golden tickets and get the exciting opportunity to tour Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. The show is full of singing and dancing and colorful surprises!”

According to student Emily Aivazian, this musical is going to be something never before seen and unique contrary to other productions and also states that, “We’re going to have kids from the elementary and middle schools come. It’s going to be so much fun!”

Josiah Patel, casted as the lead role of Willy Wonka, is very excited for the show and when questioned regarding the first couple  weeks of production stated, “For having only practiced for two weeks, I think we are doing really good so far…I think we are on track to be better…”

Another student that got casted as Mrs. Bucket or Charlie’s mother, Emily Aivazian, had a high morale about the show stating “That on a 1-10 scale, I am off the roof excited  because this is my first solo opportunity!”

In addition to the high remarks regarding the progress of this show, director Mrs. Frost gave  us some insight regarding her cast, and is proud to announce that  “for the first time ever, we have a girl Charlie and she is AMAZING! The show also includes 45 ERHS students in our beginner/intermediate theatre program, as well as 50 students in K-8th grade!”

Showtimes for the upcoming show are September 20th and 21st at 7:00pm and September 22nd at 2:00pm and 7:00pm. Tickets are $10 and are available to purchase on Monday, September 10th at erhs.booktix.com ?
