Inktober

Inktober was created in 2009 by Jake Parker in order to improve his own skills and encourage a good habit of drawing everyday. He drew with pen and ink every day for the whole month of October, 31 days for 31 pieces. The Internet took it and ran with it as it is now a worldwide tradition for artists.

Every October, artists all over the world take on the InkTober drawing challenge by doing one ink drawing a day the entire month.

On Jake Parker’s website is an array of tools to assist any interested in participating. After the rules and the year’s prompt list, there’s a link to an inking tutorial site, a list of art supplies and what each one does, and finally an archive of past Inktobers done by Parker himself.

So if you’re interested in taking up the challenge yourself, don’t be afraid to pick up a pen or drive down to the nearest art store and buy a calligraphy set. Even if you don’t feel like doing it yourself, there are a hundred posts for you to look through on every media platform through the hashtag: #inktober.
