2018 Battle of the Bands

Fatimah Jackson, Staff Writer

On March 22nd, Eleanor Roosevelt’s first battle of the bands competition is being held. Bands were able to sign up for auditions between the 5th and 9th of March, and those who did so attended the auditions on the 14th of this week.

The events begs the essential question: what are we to expect from the performers?  According to Ryan Standiford, a future hopeful contestant for the battle, “there was a wide range of bands there, some were rock, others were vocal; but overall there was a big turnout.” Performances are most likely are going to range from the classic rock band, to possible instrumental based bands. As of yet, ASB hasn’t revealed who they picked for the school, so we are waiting in anticipation for next Wednesday.

I asked a few Eleanor Roosevelt students what they think of a Battle of the Bands being held, and many agreed that the concept seems exciting. One student Annabelle Wells shared that, “I think we have a lot of really talented people at this school, since it is really big, so like I’m not worried about any of the bands being bad.” Though other students were concerned with not having a variety of bands being able to win.

One junior, Gianna Barrentes, shared with me that, “I just like want there to be not just rock bands playing, I hope there are gonna being singing groups, or like band kids playing too.” The concern of bias tainting to future competition will hopefully not influence the judges in their decisions.

The winner, or winners, of the Battle of the Bands will keep their music preferences out of the judging, and determine the winners based off of talent. So, on the day of the competition, the event will be held in the quad during both lunches, so be sure to go out there and support your friends.
