A woman in Highgrove has been charged with one count of murder for beating her three-year-old daughter to death.

Thirty-year-old Susan Rank is accused for the death her daughter Zayla. Rank’s arraignment was originally supposed to be held on February 7th, but is now postponed to February 13th.

Police officers arrived at the scene at 6:55 a.m. on January 31st. Zayla’s body was discovered outside the residence. Officers immediately detained everyone in the household. Currently, Rank is being held on a $1,000,000 bail. Rank’s relatives said that “she was born with a brain tumor and is mentally ill.” However, Zayla’s grandmother and great aunt believe that Rank is responsible for Zayla’s death. The family created a GoFundMe in efforts to help raise money for the funeral.

Allan Kounlavong, a senior at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, expresses in distraught that “I cannot ever understand people that beat kids.”

Autopsy results will not be revealed for months as lab results take awhile.
