On Thursday, December 7, U.S Democrat Senator from Minnesota and former cast member of “Saturday Night Live” Al Franken announced his desire to resign from the U.S Senate in light of allegations of sexual harassment made against him. His announcement made in front of the U.S Senate accompanied by his wife, Franni Bryson.

Franken has since denied those accusations.

In addition to remarking on his planned resignation, which will go in full effect after the current year ends, Franken touched on the flaws within the Trump administration itself, citing the various accusations and scandals that occur within it.

“I of all people am aware that there is some irony in the fact that I am leaving while a man who has bragged on tape about his history of sexual assault sits in the Oval Office, and a man who has repeatedly preyed on young girls campaigns for the Senate with the full support of his party,” Franken said in Washington, D.C.

Franken also noted that this resignation marks as one of his worst days as a politician, as he is one of many people who has had to resign, or be removed, as a result of sexual assault accusations in the political, entertainment, and journalism arena.
