You Are a Leader

On November 1, Eleanor Roosevelt High School is having Dru Snider, former Fire Captain for the California Fire Department, to speak about being an Emergency Medical Responder. This is a continuation of the Stem Speaker Series, that until recently was dormant. The Stem Speaker Series was an opportunity for ERHS students to hear from experienced individuals about certain occupations. It is only for about an hour on late start days but it’s an amazing opportunity for someone interested in a specific job to understand what it is like. I had an opportunity last year to go to the event where the speaker was a forensic pathologist of the Riverside County Examiners Office. He discussed what it was like being a forensic pathologist and the schooling required. A previous attendee of the Stem Speaker Series, Ashley Pagel said that the event was “inspiring and intriguing to learn something first hand instead of from a book.” For the students, this series is a chance for students to explore future career options and get a better grasp of what they want to do in life.
