Now just when we thought we where done with fires in California, on 9 October 2017 at 11:30 pm I received a text message with a picture that Anaheim hills is on fire.

This fire has been happening since Sunday night and according to CalFire Battalion Chief Jonathan Cox, the Tubbs Fire and Santa Rosa and Calistoga alone grew from 200 acres to 20,000 acres by Monday morning. It is getting closer and closer to us by the second. 15,000 homes and commercial building were completely destroyed. Not to mention that 20,000 people were evacuated as 14 large fires burn. Thankfully there were no initial reports of any injuries or deaths, but officials are still saving people right now.

Not only were there fires in Santa Rosa but another fire occurred Monday October 9, 2017. That Monday was a very windy day here in California and those can be making things worse. Maddie Gorrie, senior here at ERHS, lives in Anaheim and she said, “On the way home from school I could see the smoke rising from the hills, and in the morning driving to school, I was able to smell the smoke which burned so much  of our local canyon.” Despite it being so close to her house she is not afraid it will travel closer to her, “I think they’ve contained it enough.” My heart goes out to all of those who have been dealing with the fires in Anaheim.
