NFL palyers  have been kneeling during the national anthem for a while before Trump turned it into this big confrontation. They kneel because the feel as though the flag does not hold up to it’s standards.  It represents equality, perseverance, and even justice.  They say our country oppresses black people and people of color, and they also kneel for police brutality which is a big issues going on today’s society .

Its getting so much steam because of a rally in Alabama, the president of the United States said the NFL players should be fired for kneeling during the national anthem.  He states,”Wouldn’t you love to see one of theses NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say ‘Get that son of a B**** off the field right now, and he’s fired, he’s fired.'” He felt like they are disrespecting the flag.

certain NFL teams started to protest and others  handled the situation differently.  Some teams didn’t come out at all during the national anthem because they couldn’t agree on standing or kneeling so they just stayed in the tunnel until it was time to come out and play.  Other teams the coach and the team kneel for the anthem. Student Lorraine Scott said, “They kneel because the rights of the flag they feel like it doesn’t apply to them.” She also said the President of the United states could have handled that much better but she wasn’t shocked at all that he said something like that “how do you feel about this topic.
