Children tend to believe in fictional characters such as Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and the tooth fairy.

Just three years ago, Slender Man came into the lives of two 14-year-old girls in Waukesha, Wisconsin.  Anissa Weier and Morgan Geyser lured their classmate, Payton Leutner, into a local, wooded park.  Here, the two girls stabbed Leutner a total of nineteen times.

Hours later, Payton Leutner was found by a cyclist after she crawled to safety.  Later that day, Weier and Geyser walked to a forest in northern Wisconsin to meet Slender Man where they were arrested.

Weier claims Slender Man forced her to kill Leutner and if she did not, the consequence would be for her along with her family to die.

The jury selection for the court case took place on Tuesday, September 12, where the District Attorney claimed the girls were aware a crime was being committed.  Due to this, both girls are being tried as adults with first-degree intentional homicide.

Weirer is pleading not guilty since she claims to have schizotypy. Natalia Cardenas, a senior at Roosevelt states, “In my opinion, they should be tried as adults because they were old enough to know better.”

Defendants are swearing up and down that Anissa Weier had lost touch with reality and had no way to separate fantasies from what was actually occurring.

Initially, the plan was for Geyser to stab Leutner but she was not able to do so in the moment, so she forced Weier to take her place as the murder.  Natalia Cardenas believes “they should both be guilty since they were both involved in the crime.”

Now, we must wait for October to roll around in order to see how the jurors decide to rule out this Slender Man case.
