As we’re delving into the new school year, the Eleanor Roosevelt Theatre Program is progressing at a rapid speed, as they’re currently in the process of producing and casting the upcoming musical, “Grease!” This past week, auditions were held for the production and the turnout amounted to an astounding 170 kids. “The decisions regarding casting will be extremely difficult this year, as there’s simply too much talent.” Mrs. Frost, the theatre director, commented.

With an overwhelming amount of talent auditioning for this production, potential members of the cast are definitely feeling the pressure, as each person has gone through the dancing, singing and callback process. Despite the fact that 170 kids auditioned, its directors and coordinators desire to make this an average cast of 70-80 kids, increasing the already existing pressure.

However, regardless of the decisions that are heavily anticipated, Frost is undoubtedly certain that this upcoming production will be one of the best performed yet. “It’s gonna be amazing; it’s gonna be tons of bright colors, dancing, and as for the set, it’ll be incredibly shiny!” she describes, as the musical is about to transition into rehearsals and productions.

As for the rest of the year, Frost shares some of her aspirations and goals for this upcoming year. “I would like to increase the size of our program in terms of being able to utilize talents of beginning theatre students and appeal to the younger kids so that when they come here, they have an interest to take the theatre class.”

For personal goals this year, Frost desires to not only appeal to the younger generation of theatre students, but also give back to the community. “I want us to have more opportunities to do benefit performances and give back to the community; like possibly scheduling performances at retirement homes and being involved in foundations that provides supplies for children in Africa and other third world countries.”

With the expectations high and the overflow of talent, the Eleanor Roosevelt Theatre Program is definitely thriving and is in for an exciting and memorable program.
